Last Week of School: the Oxford Shell

I thought it would be worth a look at the Oxford Shell  (Chesapeake Light Craft), where we started and how close we are to finishing.  Un fortunately, the school year was not quite long enough, with all the other responsiblities for student/athletes, but we are in sight of the finish.  The young man building this has enough experience now to finish this up on his own.

Way back in the Fall, wiring together the hull.

Putting the deck together.

Today's effort: glassing the foredeck.

The cockpit.

Transom view.

One more deck to glass.

Foot stretcher.

Trying something new...

One of the boys wants to use his boat for fly-fishing and was looking for a way to get a more stable platform.  He put together a foam pontoon from art department left-overs and we did a trial with some wood pieces I had in the shop.  Too short to take a good paddle stroke, but we got some data and can try again.  He was actually able to stand in the boat with this set-up, though that is not really necessary for his purposes.
